The highly anticipated India-Pakistan match was called off at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 10, due to persistent rain. The Super Four match between the two neighbouring nations was rescheduled for the reserve day in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.

The weather for the reserve day of the India-Pakistan match is also not looking promising. Accuweather predicts a high chance of thunderstorms during the game, with a 73 percent probability of showers. This unfavourable weather situation could potentially lead to a washout.

Pakistan Pacers’ Struggles After Winning The Toss

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and chose to bowl first at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 10. Babar Azam’s decision backfired as the pace bowlers failed to trouble Indian top-order batters in seam-friendly conditions in a high-octane contest.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted with positive intent against Pakistan pacers under bright, sunny conditions. Rohit smashed Shaheen Afridi for a six off the final delivery of the first over in the match. Pakistan’s fielders failed to grab a couple of opportunities.

Rohit tried to unsettle leg spinner Shadab Khan, hitting him for three sixes and four in his first over. However, Shadab bounced back to dismiss the Indian skipper for 56 runs in the 17th over. Shubman Gill went back to the pavilion after being dismissed by Shaheen Afridi in the next over.

What Happens If Rain Plays Spoilsport In India-Pakistan Clash

The match was interrupted by rain when India’s score was 147/2 in 24.1 overs. The reserve day was activated because a 20-over-per-side game was not possible on Sunday. The match will resume at 3:00 PM on Monday with the same score, and it will continue as a full 50-over-per-side contest.

Both India and Pakistan will receive one point each if the reserve day is also washed out. The Babar Azam-led team, leading the Super 4 table, will maintain their top position in the points table with three points, while the Rohit Sharma-led team will move to third place with one point in their tally.
