Former Indian coach Sanjay Bangar praised India’s innovative and unique training session ahead of the start of their Asia Cup 2023 campaign. India will begin their campaign against Pakistan on September 2.
However, the team is down to their practice session with all the members actively participating. The tournament marks the comeback of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer into India’s ODI squad. Both are expected to bat at their regular positions in the middle order.
The players were made to go through a Yo-Yo Test with Shubman Gill emerging as the best performer. All the players were required to score above 16.5. The preparations intensified on Friday as the Indian stars delved into their primary training routines.
Meanwhile, Star Sports reported a unique approach to training by the management. Shreyas Iyer was seen batting alongside Virat Kohli. Kohli was also seen batting with Ravindra Jadeja.

Batters Paired In Anticipation Of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma’s Early Dismissal: Sanjay Bangar
The former Indian coach explained the reason behind the Indian batters batting in varied combinations. Bangar suggested that India are preparing for a situation where its two star batters, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are dismissed early in the innings.
“You must have noticed that Shreyas and Gill batted together. I think it is in the anticipation where Rohit and Virat get dismissed early, Iyer and Gill will have to bat together. Or, where the no.4 batter is dismissed early and Virat Kohli is on the crease, and a left-hander is promoted to no.5, a provisional situation was created for that as well. See, players need to know about each other’s game. Yes, they’re playing for a long time but it’s good to see these combinations in practice sessions,” Bangar told Star Sports.
India begin their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Pakistan on September 2. They next play against Nepal on September 4. There is a possibility of an India-Pakistan final in the Asia Cup as well.
