IND vs PAK: Here's What Will Happen If India vs Pakistan Match In Asia Cup 2023 Is Washed Out Due To Rain

Team India will open their campaign in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 with the mouthwatering clash against arch-rivals Pakistan. The much-awaited India vs Pakistan (IND vs PAK) game is scheduled to take place on Saturday (September 2) in Pallekele.

Unlike India, Pakistan have already opened its campaign in the tournament. The Men in Green thrashed Nepal by 238 runs in the tournament opener to get the campaign underway in style. The Babar Azam-led side made a shaky start with the bat but quickly recovered and thoroughly dominated the contest.

After centuries from skipper Babar and Iftikhar Ahmed propelled them to 342, they bowled out Nepal for just 238 runs. It was Pakistan’s fourth straight win in ODIs. They had entered the competition after whitewashing Afghanistan in the three-match ODI series.

With momentum on their side, the two-time Asia Cup champions will be looking to get the better of India. India, on the other hand, will also be looking to start their campaign on a strong note. The Men in Blue have a strong squad for the tournament and they will be fancying their chances against the in-form Pakistan team.

What if the India vs Pakistan match is washed out?

While the cricketing world is eagerly waiting for the India vs Pakistan match in Asia Cup 2023 to take place, there is a chance that rain might play spoilsport. The weather forecast for the match day is not promising at all. As per reports, as many as three spells of rain are forecasted for the game. Rain is likely to interrupt the match consistently from 5 PM to 11 PM.

While everyone will be hoping that rain stays away on Saturday, there is a chance that it might not. So what happens if Rain does play Spilsport during the India vs Pakistan match? Well if rain interrupts the game, both the sides will have to play a minimum of 20 overs, for a result to be declared.

If rain affects the first innings, then the match will entirely be abandoned. If rain kicks in 20 overs after the 2nd innings has been bowled, the winner will be decided through the Duckworth-Lewis system. And in case, the game is called off, both India and Pakistan will share a point each. A point for Pakistan will secure their passage to the Super 4 while India will have to win against Nepal to progress to the next round.
