Team India have received a huge boost ahead of their crucial Super 4 clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has returned to Sri Lanka ahead of the high-voltage clash against the Men in Green.
Last week, Jasprit Bumrah returned to Mumbai to attend the birth of his first child. He and his wife Sanjana Ganesan were blessed with a baby boy on September 4. The bowler himself took to his social media accounts to share the good news with his fans and followers. The India pace spearhead also revealed that he and his wife have named the baby Angad.
Team India will be delighted to have him back just in time for the huge clash. In his absence, the bowling lineup lacked sharpness against Nepal. The fast-bowlers failed to give the team an early breakthrough as the Nepal openers shared a 65-run stand for the opening wicket.
Nepal went on to post a competitive total of 230 runs against a bowling lineup that boasted the likes of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. And although India won the game by 10 wickets (DLS method), their bowling performance has been talk of the town for all the wrong reasons. The team-management will be hoping that Jasprit Bumrah’s return gives the bowling attack some much needed sharpness for the clash against high-flying Pakistan.
India look to reclaim Asia Cup:
Team India will be keen to reclaim the Asia Cup after losing it last year. The Men in Blue bowed out of the last edition of the tournament at the Super 4 stage after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka. One defeat in the Super 4 can pretty much derail a team’s campaign and the Rohit Sharma-led side will be looking to start their campaign with a win.
However, it won’t be an easy task against the in-form Pakistan team. The Men in Green have looked like the team to beat in the tournament so far. They began their campaign with a 238-run win over Nepal before their game against India was washed out.
But before the wash out, they impressed with the ball and bowled out India for 266. Pakistan then beat Bangladesh to start their Super 4 campaign with a win. The much-awaited India vs Pakistan match in the Super 4 is scheduled to take on Sunday (September 10).
