IND vs PAK: "It's Been Really Good To Have These 6 Days" - Rahul Dravid On India's Training Camp Ahead Of Asia Cup 2023

Indian head coach Rahul Dravid talked about the six-day camp his side had in Bengaluru ahead of the Asia Cup 2023. He said that it was a great opportunity for them to work on specific areas and a lot of skills with bat and ball. 

Indian Cricket Team put in hard yards under the guidance of Rahul Dravid in Bengaluru in Alur. They had a six-day camp to prepare themselves for the Asia Cup. Both batters as well as bowlers took part in various drills and left no stone unturned in their preparation. 

Apart from the batting and bowling, there were quite a few fitness sessions as well. The players were seen doing fielding drills and they also had match stimulation sessions as well. It’s fair to say that they would have gotten many issues right ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 and all they need to do is execute in the games.

Head coach Rahul Dravid attended the press conference in Bengaluru on the eve of India’s departure for Sri Lanka. He said that it was great for them as a team to have a camp as they got the opportunity to work on specific areas. He explained: 

“It’s been really good to have these 6 days and like you rightly said it’s really hard for us, the amount of cricket we are playing, to have games and to have practice sessions like this. In my 18-19 months or 2 years that I have been with the team now.  probably had the chance to have a couple of small camps with the red ball team. One in South Africa during Covid days we had a few days before the Test match started there. And then we had one in Nagpur before the Australia series started. 

“Actually with the white ball team, this is the first time we have actually been able to have a group where everyone has been able to come together. We have had a few days sometimes where we have come a little bit earlier before matches but to have  access to these really good facilities, to be able to work on a lot of specific staff, a lot of specific match stimulation stuff done over the last 3-4 days.”

Rahul Dravid said he was delighted to have camp as he got the opportunity to connect with players. He pointed out that with them playing continuous cricket, they are only focused on games but this camp allowed them to work on various areas. He also credited KSCA for the facilities they provided. He added: 

“We finished of session with net session today. When you are playing so much, travelling so much it’s very very difficult to do. I really like this because you know for me as a coach actually gives us an opportunity to really work on specific things with players, good to have conversations with players about roles, skills. Sometimes when you get into tournaments or just before games, you’re sort of so geared up towards just playing on that particular match or that particular tournament. 

“So, it doesn’t give you that time. So it has been fruitful 4-5 days, where we had an opportunity to connect as a group, we have had a chance to do some fitness, there was some fielding done, lot of skills with a bat and ball. Really good facilities and I like to thank KSCA and NCA for providing us these facilities and just the quality that we’ve had over the last 6 days has been superb.”

India team will be leaving for Sri Lanka on Thursday (30th August). They will open their campaign against Pakistan on 2nd September in Kandy.
