Right-handed batsman, KL Rahul made a comeback in the training camp of the India squad members for Asia Cup 2023 in Alur.
The star wicketkeeper-batsman was out of the pitch after he picked up a thigh injury during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) while fielding.
Following this, the player went through surgery and was in the rehabilitation process for months at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
According to Star Sports, on a good note, KL Rahul has already returned to the crease and started his net practice in Alur and is facing the quality bowlers who were roped by the team management for net practice.
For the preparation of the Asia Cup 2023, the Men in Blues team management roped in high-quality bowlers to help the Indian batsmen in the net practice.
Bowlers like Umran Malik, Kuldeep Sen, Tushar Deshpande, Yash Dayal, and spinners Sai Kishore and Rahul Chahar have already joined the squad to assist the 17-member squad.
KL Rahul will be fit probably for the 2nd and 3rd games: Ajit Agarkar
Ajit Agarkar-led India chief selection committee announced Asia Cup 2023’s 17-member squad on Monday (August 21st) and named Kl Rahul in the squad.
However, in the press conference, Ajit Agarkar said that Kl Rahul picked a niggle during practice matches at NCA and confirmed that it is different from his thigh.
Agarkar also gave a ray of hope to the fans and confirmed that he will return to the first eleven by the second or third match of the tournament and that is why Sanju Samson is been traveling as a backup player.
“Shreyas Iyer has been declared completely fit. KL Rahul, in the last few days, not his original injury, but he has picked up a niggle. That’s why Sanju Samson is at the moment traveling with us. But the physios, I am sure, will get a report, at some stage, they are all expected to be fit. If not at the start of the Asia Cup, probably from the 2nd and 3rd game (Rahul to be fit). He is well on track. Shreyas Iyer has been passed fit. Two important teams for us. We don’t have to pick the World Cup team till September 5. That gives us more time,” Ajit Agarkar said during a press conference on Monday.
Rohit Sharma-led India start their Asia Cup 2023 journey against Pakistan on Saturday (September 2nd). The match will be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka.
