Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz opened up about young pacer Naseem Shah’s performance while representing the national cricket team. Wahab Riaz highlighted that Naseem Shah has not yet showcased his true potential in international cricket.
Naseem played 17 Tests, 10 ODIs, and 19 T20Is for the Pakistan team in his brief career. The right-arm pacer took 51 wickets in Tests, 25 wickets in ODIs, and 15 wickets in T20I cricket. He also showcased his batting prowess while batting lower down the order.
Naseem Shah Has Bowled Well In Quite A Lot Of Matches – Wahab Riaz
Wahab Riaz mentioned that Naseem Shah had shown promise in many matches, suggesting he should contribute more significantly to Pakistan’s victories.
“Naseem has bowled well in quite a lot of matches. However, I feel that he has still not performed up to his capability as of yet. He should win matches for Pakistan considering his capability,” Wahab said.
Shaheen Afridi’s Ten Overs Will Be Of Great Importance – Wahab Riaz
Reflecting on the Pakistan bowling attack for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, the 38-year-old highlighted that Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf can bowl in different phases of the game.
“Shaheen Shah Afridi is skilled with the new ball, and later Haris Rauf takes charge. They are specialists in bowling during the death overs. In the World Cup, Afridi’s ten overs will be of great importance. The team will need wickets from him between the 25th and 35th overs,” he added.
Pakistan Heavily Relies On Their Top-Order – Wahab Riaz
Wahab Riaz emphasized that Pakistan’s batting strategy heavily depends on the top three batters. The former pacer highlighted that the team is facing challenges in building a strong middle-order lineup.
“In ODIs, Pakistan heavily relies on their top-order trio of Imam, Fakhar, and Babar. However, Pakistan continues to grapple with issues concerning their middle-order lineup,” he concluded.
Pakistan Squad For Asia Cup 2023
The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The tournament will begin with the match between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan on Wednesday, August 30. The Men in Green will face India in their next match in Pallekele on Saturday, September 2.
