Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin hailed ground staff in Colombo for their remarkable job during the Super Four India vs Pakistan game in Asia Cup 2023 amid heavy rains. He said that the staff at the R.Premadasa Stadium has done the most thankless job.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s comments came following heavy rains that marred the India vs. Pakistan game in Colombo. It was bright during the day as the match got underway and there was a lot of excitement with how things panned despite heavy rains predicted throughout the day.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first. However, only 24.1 overs of the game were possible as it poured cats and dogs and forced umpires to call off the play. The rain frustrated many but the effort of the ground staff was something that was hailed by many.

The passage of heavy rain created puddles in some places. The ground staff put in every possible effort to get rid of that. They first used sponges for a lot of time and if this was not enough they brought three fans on a wheelbarrow set up to dry the dampness quickly.

Their innovation was lauded by Ravichandran Ashwin, who praised them for their efforts. Taking to his X account, he said: “Innovation, ground staff doing a most thankless job.”

Here’s Ravichandran Ashwin’s Post:

IND vs PAK: India will resume on the score of 147/2 on reserve day

Indian openers batted beautifully after being asked to bat first in Colombo. Shubman Gill (58) and Rohit Sharma (56) smashed blistering half-centuries and stitched 121 runs for the opening partnership.

Virat Kohli then was batting at 8 runs off 16 balls along with KL Rahul, who was unbeaten at 17 runs off 28 balls, before rain interrupted the game. During the halt, India were 147/2 in 24.1 overs. For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi and Shahdab Khan picked wickets.

The game will now be moving to reserve day and India will continue from the point their innings stopped today. However, to the disappointment of fans, the chances of rain on 11th September are very high.
