Cricket commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has elaborated on his expectation of batting flexibility for Team India during the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and ICC World Cup 2023. Sanjay Manjrekar said that his batting flexibility is not limited to batters facing any particular bowler but also about making way for other batters to bat in a particular position.

Earlier, Sanjay Manjrekar had talked about Virat Kohli batting at no.4 for Team India so that Ishan Kishan can bat in the top order. Ishan Kishan is an opening batsman. However, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are two openers for Team India. Hence, it’s difficult to place Kishan in the top order as Virat Kohli takes the no.3 spot.

Let’s Not Confuse The Kind Of Flexibility That I Expect: Sanjay Manjrekar

While speaking on Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar spoke about the kind of flexibility he expects from Team India.

“I will make a quick point though; let’s not confuse flexibility, the kind of flexibility that I expect. For example, where I mentioned Virat Kohli as a number 4 to solve the problem with Ishan Kishan batting down the order, that’s the kind of flexibility that I’m talking about in the starting template”.

“Now, what happens during the course of the match down the order at number 4, 5, 6; you have two spinners operating, turning a bit, then those kinds of moves are commonplace and something that you expect,” Manjrekar said.

The Whole Debate Is About No. 4, 5 And 6: Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar also added that switching an important position at the start of the game is the kind of flexibility he is talking about. He also mentioned that the whole debate in the Indian team is how the no. 4, 5, and 6 is going to look in the upcoming tournaments.

“I think with the starting template or with the plan at the start of the game switching an important position. The whole debate really is about how your 4, 5, 6 are going to look. KL Rahul, I worry about the selection with this niggle”.

“Shreyas Iyer more optimistic and both Ravi (Shastri) and myself when we talked about Virat Kohli at number 4, that’s the kind of flexibility I’m talking about, not while the match is happening and just for a short time where somebody can tackle a particular bowler,” Manjrekar further added.

Meanwhile, India has announced the squad for the Asia Cup 2023. In the middle-order, selectors have signed players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma.

It will be interesting to know how the middle-order will look during Asia Cup 2023 because some players have made a comeback after a long time. India will play their opening encounter of Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan on September 2.
