Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has said that Shaheen Afridi will have the upper hand in his duel with Rohit Sharma in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. The highly-anticipated high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in the World Cup is scheduled to take place on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Against Pakistan’s formidable bowling lineup, the onus will be on captain and one of the most experienced batters in the team Rohit Sharma to give India a good start with the bat. However, it would not be an easy task for the right-handed batsman. With Pakistan boasting the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, Rohit Sharma will be at his absolute best to give the team a good start.
Rohit Sharma usually looks a bit unstable against the new ball, especially against left-arm pacers. Time and again, one has seen left-arm pacers trapping him in front of the wicket with incoming deliveries and Shaheen Afridi has mastered that skill.
While only time will tell who wins the duel between Rohit Sharma and Shaheen Afridi, Brad Hogg has picked the latter. The former cricketer stated that Shaheen will have the upper hand because of his ability to bowl the incoming deliveries against the right-handers. He also said that the contest between the pacer and India’s top three might decide the fate of the match.
“I think Shaheen will have a chance with the deliveries that come in against right-handers. If Pakistan can expose Virat Kohli early in the contest against the new ball in front of Shaheen Afridi, the contest between Shaheen and the Indian top three will be decisive. So, for me, that’s going to be where the game will be won and lost between India and Pakistan,” Brad Hogg told RevSportz.
Rohit Sharma’s record against Pakistan:
Rohit Sharma has a good record in ODIs against Pakistan. In 16 games so far against Pakistan, he has scored 720 runs at an average of 51 with the help of two centuries and 6 fifties. The India skipper has also scored centuries in his last two ODI innings against Pakistan.
Meanwhile, before the clash in the World Cup, India and Pakistan are also scheduled to take on each other this week in the Asia Cup. The much-awaited match is scheduled to take place on Saturday (September 2) in Pallekele.
