Shubman Gill was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday (October 10) as he continues to recover from dengue. The India batsman was diagnosed with dengue just before the start of the ongoing 2023 World Cup and is yet to play a match in the competition.

He missed India’s World Cup opener against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (October 8). The right-handed batsman had traveled to Chennai with the team and was also set to travel to Delhi with the rest of the team for the upcoming match against Afghanistan. However, just before the game against Australia, the opener had to be hospitalized after his platelet count fell.

Since being discharged, he has been staying in his hotel room in Chennai. As per reports, the doctors have advised him not to undertake air travel at present as he is still weak. It is one of the main reasons why he did not travel to Delhi despite being discharged on Tuesday.

Shubman Gill to travel to Ahmedabad:

While Shubman Gill did not accompany Team India to Delhi, he will be with the rest of the team in Ahmedabad for the huge clash against Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The high-voltage clash is scheduled to be played on Saturday (October 14).

According to a report in RevSportz, the India opener will leave Chennai for Ahmedabad on Wednesday (October 11) while Team India will be busy playing against Afghanistan. The Indian team is expected to land in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

With only three days left before the match between India and Pakistan takes place, it looks highly unlikely that Shubman Gill will be a part of the game. Given the time it takes to fully recover from dengue-related weakness, the team management is unlikely to jeopardize one of their key players during the initial stages of the tournament.

In his absence, Ishan Kishan opened the innings against Australia and is set to retain his place for the game against Afghanistan even though he was out for a duck in the previous match. The southpaw is also likely to partner Rohit Sharma at the top of the batting order if Shubman Gill does not play against Pakistan.
