Team India have received a huge boost ahead of their high-voltage clash against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Their star Shubman Gill is all set to return to training as he continues to recover after being diagnosed with dengue last week.

He has missed both of India’s World Cup games so far. The right-handed batsman was diagnosed with dengue before the World Cup opener against Australia in Chennai. And although he was expected to play against Afghanistan, his hopes were dashed after his platelets count fell.

Shubman Gill had to be hospitalized and remained in the hospital for two days before being discharged on Tuesday (October 10), one day before the game against Afghanistan. He could not even travel to Delhi with the rest of the team for the Afghanistan clash.

Speculations were rife that he might remain on the sidelines for a long period after being hospitalized. However, India batting coach Vikram Rathour allayed the fears by stating that it was just a precautionary measure and that the batsman was recovering well.

Shubman Gill to resume training:

According to the latest reports, Shubman Gill is all set to hit the nets on Thursday (October 12). If the India star does train, it will be his first training session in over a week. Earlier on Wednesday (October 11), he traveled to Ahmedabad from Chennai.

“Gill took the evening flight from Chennai yesterday and reached Ahmedabad last night. He is now likely to hit the ground today and we will then see how the body reacts to physical activity. There is going to be no rush, one step at a time,” a source close to developments told CricketNext.

While India will be tempted to play the batsman against Pakistan, they are unlikely to take any risk with him ahead of the business phase of the World Cup. Shubman Gill has been in stunning form in ODIs this year and is the leading run-scorer in the format. In his absence, Ishan Kishan has been opening the innings alongside Rohit Sharma.
