It would not be entirely wrong to say that India and Pakistan are hogging all the attention and the limelight ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The much-awaited tournament is scheduled to get underway on Wednesday (August 30).

For the first time in the history of the competition, it is being played in two countries. While Pakistan will host four games, Sri Lanka will be the venue for the other nine games including the final and five of the six Super 4 games. In the first game of the tournament, hosts Pakistan will lock horns against Nepal in Multan.

And ahead of the tournament, all eyes are on the clash between India and Pakistan scheduled to take place on Saturday (September 2). Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has fired a timely reminder to both India and Pakistan.

While many consider India and Pakistan the favorites for the tournament, the legendary batsman has opined that one should not rule out defending champions Sri Lanka’s abilities. Last year too, Sri Lanka began the Asia Cup as underdogs and went on to stun both India and Pakistan to win the competition against all the odds.

“In the Asia Cup, we are talking about India-Pakistan rivalry… But don’t forget Sri Lanka are also there, and they have been winning the Asia Cup. The rivalry between these three countries is always something special, Sunil Gavaskar told reporters in Mumbai after he was revealed as the principal advisor of the Midwicket Stories.

Sunil Gavaskar on World Cup semifinalists:

With the World Cup just over a month away, several experts have picked their favorites to make it to the semifinal. Sunil Gavaskar, however, has refused to predict the semifinalists for the marquee event, saying that he is only interested in India’s performances.

“I am only interested about India, I am not bothered about the others making it to the semifinals,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

After the Asia Cup, Team India will welcome Australia for a three-match ODI series. The series will take place from September 21 to 27 and will give both teams the opportunity to finetune their preparations for the World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to start on October 5 while India and Australia will open their campaign by taking on each other on October 8.
