IND vs PAK: "They Need To Prepare For..." - Sanjay Manjrekar Makes India Aware Of Challenges Ahead Of Pakistan Clash

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar talked about the challenges that India might face up against Shaheen Afridi in the upcoming Super Four clash against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023. He pointed out that the batters need to tackle the back of the length deliveries that catch moment from the pitch.

Indian batters were yet again prey to the left-arm angling in deliveries from Shaheen Afridi in the first game, in particular Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The Pakistan pacer swung the ball and also got help from the pitch which made the ball move in and away from batters.

Shaheen Afridi will be gearing up once again to replicate that as India will face Pakistan yet again. The match between the arch-rivals will take place on Sunday (10th September) in Colombo.

Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma played typical Shaheen Afridi deliveries that are full very well. Speaking to Star Sports, he explained:

“The opening phase had two spells; in the first spell, before the rain had come, he was bowling typical Shaheen Afridi kind of deliveries. He was bowling further up the pitch, trying to get the ball to swing inwards, and that length was being played very well by Shubhman Gill and Rohit Sharma.”

Sanjay Manjrekar further analyzed that after Shaheen Afridi pulled his length back, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struggled to play that. He added:

“And after the rain, someone must have spoken to Shaheen Afridi, and after the break, he brought his length back and in that length, the good length, Rohit Sharma got out, and so did Virat. So it wasn’t the typical Shaheen Afridi kind of delivery that troubled the Indian batters, but the shorter length, meaning the movement from the pitch made them out.”

Sanjay Manjrekar further added that Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill playing inswinging deliveries of Shaheen Afridi was good news for India. He added:

“They need to prepare for these kinds of deliveries as well, but for the main swinging delivery of Shaheen Afridi, the good news was that both Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill weren’t fazed by that.”

Shaheen Afridi rattled the Indian top order in the first game and left India tumbling at 66/4. The left-arm pacer returned with the figures of 4/25 and his wickets included Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya.
