India will face Pakistan in the third match of the ongoing Asia Cup at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 2. This high-octane encounter holds significant importance as it marks the first ODI match between the two nations since the 2019 World Cup.

The bilateral series between the two neighbouring nations almost came to a halt following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Pakistan did their last tour to India for a bilateral series in 2012. Nevertheless, they have faced each other in thrilling matches at the ICC and ACC tournaments.

As the two teams gear up for their upcoming encounter in Kandy, ace Indian batter Virat Kohli and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam are eyeing personal milestones. However, rain might play spoilsport during the highly anticipated clash between the two teams in Sri Lanka.

Babar Azam On Verge Of Breaking Virat Kohli’s Record

Babar Azam is on the verge of breaking Virat Kohli’s record for the fastest 2000 ODI runs as a captain. The right-handed batter is just six runs away from achieving this massive milestone. He scored 1994 runs as the captain in 30 innings, while Virat completed 2000 ODI runs as the captain in 36 innings.

The Pakistan captain recently broke Hashim Amla’s record by becoming the fastest batter to score 19 ODI centuries in international cricket. Amla achieved this feat in 104 innings, while Babar did it in just 102 innings. He scored a 151-run knock against Nepal in the first match of the tournament in Multan.

Virat Kohli On Cusp Of Achieving Multiple Milestones

Virat Kohli is on the cusp of achieving a significant record in international cricket. The 34-year-old needs to score 102 runs in his next 56 innings to become the fastest player to reach 13,000 runs in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar, the current record holder, achieved this milestone in 321 innings.

The former Indian captain is 79 runs away from becoming the fifth batter to amass 14,000 international runs across all formats while batting at number three. Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Kane Williamson, and Rahul Dravid scored more runs than him at the No. 3 position.
