Former India player, Wasim Jaffer questioned Virat Kohli’s performance in the most anticipated match of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Pakistan on Saturday (September 2nd) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

India’s batsmen suffered at first in the game after they lost a few wickets in the initial overs of the match. Shaheen Afridi picked both the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

However, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya took India to a better position after they made a solid partnership and gave a target of 267 runs.

But the match was cancelled with no results due to heavy rain that started to take place just after the first inning ended.

While speaking at ESPNcricinfo, Wasim Jaffer said that Virat Kohli tried to play with an angled bat which was towards the third man. Jaffer added that the ball stopped a bit and then got the inside edge.

The former player said that Virat Kohli should have played a straight shot and then maybe he could have saved his wicket.

“He tried to play with an angled bat towards third man. The ball stopped a bit and then he got that inside edge. Maybe if he would have played it straighter, the dismissal might not have taken place,” Wasim Jaffer said.

There are chances that it can jag back and hit the stumps: Wasim Jaffer on Virat Kohli

Jaffer opened up and said that the shot that got him out was a bad execution from the player in the high-voltage match of the Asia Cup 2023.

“When the ball is coming onto the bat nicely, they you can easily score runs towards third man. But when the ball is moving around, there are chances that it can jag back and hit the stumps. The execution from Virat Kohli was not good,” Wasim Jaffer explained.

Robin Uthappa talked about Rohit Sharma’s dismissal and praised Shaheen Afridi for his clever bowling style which helped him to get the Indian skipper. Uthappa said that Rohit Sharma did not see the ball.

“It was unbelievable planning. The first two deliveries pitched and went away. The third ball pitched at the same length and came in. No batter would expect such deliveries in one-day matches. You expect such deliveries in Test matches. Rohit Sharma didn’t see that coming and [it was] exceptionally well bowled. Maybe 15/10 for execution on that particular delivery,” Robin Uthappa said.

India will take on Nepal in the fifth match of the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday (September 3rd) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
