Naseem Shah, on Sunday (June 8), clean bowled Axar Patel to put Pakistan in a strong position against India in the 19th game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. In bowling-friendly conditions, Pakistan's pacers gave their team a solid start. Naseem Shah dismissed Virat Kohli for four runs in the very first over before Shaheen Afridi sent back Rohit Sharma for 13 to leave India reeling at 19 for 2 in the third over.
After the early setbacks, the Indian team management decided to promote Axar Patel to number four ahead of Suryakumar Yadav. The allrounder did a fine job as he and Rishabh Pant steadied the ship and ensured that India did not lose any more wickets in the powerplay.
As he was well set, he decided to play a big shot against Naseem Shah in the eighth over. On the fourth ball of the over, he danced down the track and swung the bat hard. However, he was nowhere near the ball and failed to make any contact with it. As a result, the ball went on to crash into the stumps. He departed after scoring 20 runs off 18 balls with the help of two fours and one six.

Talking about the game, India were on 89 for 4 in the 12th over at the time of writing this report. Suryakumar Yadav failed to get going with the bat as well and departed after scoring just 7 runs. India will be hoping to finish strongly and post a competitive total.
With the pitch not at all easy for batting, a 150-plus total will be a challenging score. India started their campaign with a win over Ireland and a win in the ongoing game will be a huge boost to their chances of making it to the Super 8s stage.
