India won the second Test in Cape Town by seven wickets to level the series against South Africa. In the process, they gained a crucial WTC point. India losing Virat Kohli’s wicket with just four to win turned out to be an anti-climactic end for India.
It was a Test match for the ages that finished in two days with India managing to level the series with Shreyas Iyer hitting the winning runs. India needed 79 runs to win in the second innings after South Africa were bowled out for 176 in their second innings in just less than 37 overs.
South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first. They were bowled out for 55 with Mohammed Siraj taking 6/19. India in response were bowled out for 153. From being 153/5, India lost their last six wickets for no score as 23 wickets fell on the first day of play.
South Africa in their second innings scored 176. They lost three wickets by stumps on day 1. Thanks to Aiden Markram’s sixth Test ton, the Proteas reached 176. While it was Siraj in the first innings it was Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings who took six wickets for India. He took 6/61 picking up his ninth fifer in Test cricket.
Muhesk Kumar picked two wickets while Siraj and Prasidh picked one each as South Africa were bowled out for 176 leaving India 79 to win. Yashasvi Jaiswal started off quickly scoring 28 off 23 deliveries. He was dismissed By Nandre Burger. Shubman Gill who scored 26 in the first innings was cleaned up by Rabada who scored just 10. Virat Kohli was unlucky to be dismissed down the leg side for 12 while Shreyas Iyer hit the winning runs with India needing four to win.

First time India have won a Test in Cape Town. Should really heal some of the pains of the last 5 tests in SENA countries.

Hope SA understands how it feels to lose at home after tampering the pitch too much into their favour

This was perhaps the first Test match in recent times, to end inside two days A total of 33 wickets fell across the two days of the Test match in a never-seen-before passage of play. Several records were broken while many new records were created in Cape Town.
The pitch came under harsh criticism for the way it played out. The batters from both teams struggled in the first innings. In the second innings, Aiden Markram’s ton proved that the wicket got better for batting as the Test match progressed.
For India, their dream of winning a Test series in South Africa remained unrelinquished as Rohit Sharma could not become the first captain to win a Test series against India. Overall, it was India’s 16th win in 44 Test matches against the Proteas and the first in Cape Town. India is the first Asian team to win a Test match at Newlands, Cape Town.
Only 642 deliveries were bowled in the IND vs SA Cape Town Test which is the shortest ever in terms of balls bowled. This was also India’s fifth Test win in South Africa and one of the biggest victories in terms of wickets in SENA countries. The Australia vs South Africa Test match at MCG in 1932 had 656 deliveries bowled while the 1935 Test match between West Indies and England had 672 bowled in the entire Test match.
