IND vs SA: 'Sanju Samson Frustrates His Fans And Critics...'- Simon Doull Criticizes The Indian Batter For His Inconsistency
Sanju Samson again failed to create an impact as he failed to score runs again getting out on just 12 in the second ODI. Simon Doull has claimed that Sanju Samson always finds a way to get dismissed at the wrong time. His performance during the second ODI against South Africa was underwhelming as he was bowled on a meager 12. Sanju Samson has failed to capitalize on the opportunities that have been given to him for a long time.
Samson’s inconsistency has been a huge concern given that he has only one significant score in the West Indies tour in recent times. With India already having their arsenal full of wicketkeepers like KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan, who have performed well in previous matches, Samson’s place in the team is in danger. The struggle for Sanju Samson to find his form continues to hinder his chances of cementing a spot in India’s ODI team.
Simon Doull opined that Samson’s wicket was a typical Indian batter’s wicket as he tried to shuffle away and found the inside edge and the ball found the stumps. The former New Zealand cricketer affirmed that while that technique will work in India, it won’t be very effective when the ball is nipping around. Doull said that Samson is always looking to hit the ball outside the line of off-stump, which gets fans and critics frustrated.
Sanju Samson Has Had Enough Opportunities- Simon Doull
“Yeah, he’s not had a real extended run, but he’s had opportunities in back-to-back games. Quite a typical, Sanju Samson dismissal. You know, he finds ways to get out when at times he shouldn’t. He’s a little shuffle playing away from his body. We see that often. It’s ok on surfaces in India to be playing away from your body when the ball doesn’t do much.”
“But it’s nipping around a little, quite fraught with danger, that type of shot, you see the angle of the bat at 45 degrees. It’s not a classical straight bat shot. He sort of wants that wand outside the line of off-stump far too often, and I think that’s why people get frustrated with Sanju. There are those who absolutely love him, and when he’s flowing, there’s not much better to watch. The problem for Sanju is putting it together in the blue shirt,” said Doull.
Recently, Aakash Chopra observed that Sanju Samson is always picked for a format that is not of immediate importance to the Indian team. He was out of the ODI team when the World Cup was approaching and was also not a part of India’s squad for the World Cup and Asia Cup.
However, now that the World Cup is over and the main focus of all the teams is on the upcoming T20 World Cup and the ongoing WTC 2025 cycle, he finds himself in the ODI team. One of the reasons for Sanju’s exclusion from an important format is his inconsistency. He has been out of form for a long time and he has failed to perform for the India national team especially.
