Shardul Thakur, India’s bowling all-rounder, suffered a shoulder injury during an optional practice session before the second Test against South Africa. However, the latest reports indicate that Shardul Thakur is in good condition and doing well despite the blow.
The 32-year-old faced scrutiny for his performance in the first Test in Centurion, struggling with both bat and ball. The right-arm pacer conceded 101 runs in 19 overs, managing to claim only one wicket. He registered scores of 24 and 2 in both innings of the recent match.
Shardul Thakur was the first player to enter the nets and sustained a blow to his left shoulder while receiving throwdowns from a member of the support staff. The injury occurred while facing throws from batting coach Vikram Rathour on Saturday, December 30.
No Concern Over Shardul Thakur Despite Shoulder Injury – Reports
According to a report on Cricbuzz, the Indian team’s medical staff has not recommended any treatment, and Shardul did not undergo any scans. Despite the shoulder injury, Thakur continued the batting practice session ahead of the must-win encounter.
The report further highlighted that there is no cause for concern for Shardul Thakur, emphasizing that there are no problems. A website quoted a source as saying, “There is no concern at all. No issues.”
Shardul Thakur Spotted With Ice Pack Sling During Nets
According to a report in the news agency PTI, Thakur experienced discomfort and was unable to bowl after being hit on the shoulder. The incident took place around 15 minutes into the net session when a throwdown from a support staff member kicked up from length.
Shardul Thakur found himself in an awkward position, reminiscent of the Centurion Test’s second innings when he edged a delivery from South African pacer Kagiso Rabada. Following his batting, the physio applied an ice pack sling to the bowling all-rounder’s shoulder.

During the optional training session in Centurion, around seven to eight players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, and KS Bharat, participated. Additionally, all the coaches were present at the venue.
Shardul Thakur Was There On The Previous Tour As Well – Dinesh Karthik
In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik underscored the importance of enhanced performances from Shardul Thakur. Karthik highlighted that Thakur had prior exposure on the previous tour but delivered a subpar performance with both bat and ball.
“Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna definitely need to up their game. Rohit Sharma is being very kind to them when he is saying that it is the first time for the bowlers and they are young bowlers, but Shardul was there on the previous tour as well and did pretty well. Today was a very ordinary performance from Shardul Thakur with the bat and the ball,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.
