The 37th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 was played between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team on Sunday, November 5, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

India won the toss and opted to bat first in the match, nullifying the strength of the opposition team. The Men In Blue fielded an unchanged playing XI while South Africa brought in Tabraiz Shamsi for Gerald Coetzee.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing and did the heavy lifting for the team. His attacking brand of cricket disturbed the lines and lengths of the Proteas bowlers and the opener took full advantage of it by smashing boundaries all over the park.

The brilliant batting performances from the openers helped India complete 50 runs in 4.3 overs. Rohit Sharma (40) and Shubman Gill (23) laid the platform for a big total and then it was on the rest of the batters to post a big total on the board.

Virat Kohli once again played good cricket and batted deep to frustrate the Proteas. He was involved in a terrific partnership with the middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who scored an outstanding 77 runs on a difficult surface.

In the end, Virat Kohli completed his 49th ODI ton and was well supported by Suryakumar Yadav (22) and Ravindra Jadeja (29) as the Men In Blue posted a gigantic total of 326/5 on the board.

When it came to the defense, it was the domination of the highest order from the Indian bowling unit. Jasprit Bumrah bowled tight lines and lengths but wasn’t able to get a wicket. Mohammed Siraj got the first wicket by dismissing in-form Quinton de Kock and it triggered a collapse.

Ravindra Jadeja was introduced into the attack early and he bamboozled the Proteas batters and ended up picking a 5-wicket haul. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav got two wickets each while Mohammed Siraj got one as the South Africa National Cricket Team were bundled out for 83 in 27.1 overs and India won by 243 runs.
