South African Cricket Team had won the toss and opted to bat first at Ranchi. Proteas had two changes to their playing 11 as the skipper Temba Bavuma & the chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi as both of them were unwell. Keshav Maharaj became the stand-in captain. India left out Ruturaj Gaikwad & Ravi Bishnoi and in their place, the debutant Shahbaz Ahmed & Washington Sundar got a chance in the playing 11.

South African batters like Reeza Hendricks & Aiden Markram laid the foundation for the team. Hendricks scored 74 runs and Markram scored 79 runs. Both the batters were set and looking for a big knock but their dismissal changed the dynamics of the match. South Africa managed to score 278-7 on a flat deck which not may be enough.

Mohammed Siraj Cleans Up Keshav Maharaj

In the the last over of South Africa’s innings, Mohammed Siraj was making sure that the batters don’t get 10-15 runs. He was bowling impeccable line & length and wasn’t giving any room to the batter. On the 5th ball of the over he bowled an in-swinging delivery where Maharaj’s off stump was knocked over. Siraj had a great spell as picking 3 wickets on a flat pitch and conceding 38 runs only is not easy.

Tough Task for South Africa

The match depends on how the power-play overs go for South Africa. If they can pick 3 wickets and get the crucial wicket of Shikhar Dhawan then they would be in the driver’s seat. India is playing one batter shot which means a good spell of Rabada can do wonders for the Proteas.

India on the other hand, needs to take the game deep and not panic as chasing 279 runs is not a big deal. Dhawan needs to be careful in the initial stages. It would be interesting to see how Ishan Kishan bas as the youngster had tweaked his game in the 1st ODI.
