Team India started in the second Test against the Proteas with a bang as it was Aiden Markram who was dismissed for 2 runs courtesy of a brilliant slip catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal off Mohammed Siraj. The wicket came on the second ball of the fourth over, yet another failure for South African opener Markram.
The ball pitched in the line of the stumps and was going away from Aiden Markram. At last, while he was trying to play it with a straighter bat, the ball took the outside edge of his bat and Yashasvi Jaiswal took a brilliant catch at the third slip while diving to his left.

Soon after Aiden Markram’s dismissal, Mohammed Siraj didn’t take much time to strike again as on the third ball of the sixth over it was the ‘big fish’ Dean Elgar, who had to depart after being knocked over by Siraj for 4 runs.
At the current situation, the Indian pacers are already all over the Proteas as they have removed two more batsmen in the name of Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs for 2 and 3 runs respectively. At one it was Siraj who got rid of de Zorzi whereas Jasprit Bumrah struck for the first time in the match and was able to remove Stubbs.
The Indian team now will want to restrict South Africa to a low score and tighten their grip on the match by putting up a massive first innings score.
India have never won a Test at the Sahara Park Newlands and have lost the last two times they played here at this ground. The Newlands pitch is also the ground on which Jasprit Bumrah made his Test debut back in 2018. The right-handed pacer will be aiming to repeat his debut performance and grab yet another fifer.
On the other hand, the Proteas have an upper hand in the match having already won the first Test by a massive margin of an innings and 32 runs. The Indian team were kept under the pump in all the departments by South Africa and none of their players were able to perform well in the match except KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.
Now, India will be aiming to finish the South African tour with a win and level the series at 1-1. The Indian team have never won a Test series at the South African land and this dream was broken when they lost the last Test in Centurion.
After the South African tour, India will be facing a tough challenge of England in a five-match Test series at home starting from January 25 in Hyderabad.
The series will be very important from the perspective of the World Test Championship 2023-25 and now they will want to gain some big points and cover the damage they faced in Centurion.
