Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has hailed Virat Kohli as the best chaser in the history of white-ball cricket. His comments have come after the India superstar’s impressive performances in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Virat Kohli showed his class and worth once again by playing match-winning knocks against Australia, Bangladesh, and New Zealand in the tournament. Against Australia, India were reeling at 2 for 3 while chasing a modest total of 200 runs. The right-handed batsman went on to score 85 to help India win the game by 6 wickets.

The knock against Australia also saw him break the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs in successful chases. He then scored an unbeaten century against Bangladesh to help the team chase down 257 with ease. Against New Zealand, India were reeling at 191 for 5 while chasing 274. Virat Kohli, however, stood firm at his end and played a sublime knock of 95 runs to power the hosts to a 4-wicket win.

Virat Kohli is the greatest chaser of all time – Shane Watson

Speaking to the Times of India, Shane Watson called the former India skipper the greatest chaser of all time. He also recalled Virat Kohli’s stunning unbeaten knock of 82 against Australia in the 2016 T20 World Cup when he singlehandedly took India home.

“Oh yes, absolutely, he is the greatest chaser of all time. I still remember that chase of his against us in the 2016 T20 World Cup in Mohali – he was so dominant, you just couldn’t get him out,” said Shane Watson.

“I know MS Dhoni has been a brilliant chaser but Virat just keeps on doing it in T20s and ODIs. The fact that he practised these chases playing low-risk cricket as a teenager under his coach has made him this good. He just computes the chase and keeps doing it over and over again,” he added.

In the ongoing World Cup, the right-hander has scored 354 runs in 6 games and will be looking to continue his impressive run. As far as India are concerned, they are looking set to make it to the semifinals after winning all of their 6 games so far.
