Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has swiftly become one of India’s best all-format players. Be it his finishing ability or economical bowling in white-ball cricket, the capability of saving matches with the bat in Tests, or brilliant fielding across formats, he can do it all.

However, there was one thing that Jadeja had aimed for but hadn’t been able to do it successfully, until now. In an interaction with ESPNcricinfo on their popular category, ’25 questions with Cricketers’, Jadeja had said he wants to take a 5-for and score a century in the same match.

Up until now, Jadeja had only scored one century in Tests and it had come against West Indies in 2018 at his home ground. Since then, he hasn’t had an opportunity to play a long inning and has often hung around with the tail, adding crucial runs for the team.

Finally, Jadeja’s moment to shine came in Virat Kohli’s 100th Test. Against Sri Lanka, Jadeja showed why he is rated as one of the best all-rounders in world cricket at the moment, if not the best.

Coming at No.7 with India having lost half their side for 228, Jadeja first rebuilt the innings with Rishabh Pant. Once the latter fell for an explosive 96, Jadeja took it upon himself to anchor the innings.

First, it was his spin partner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who stuck around and helped stitch a 130-run partnership for the 7th wicket. During the alliance, Jadeja reached his fifty and was inching closer to a century. After Ashwin was dismissed, Mohammed Shami took the responsibility of staying at the crease, holding one side down while Jadeja smashed his way to 175*, the highest-ever score by an Indian No.7.

If his contribution with the bat wasn’t enough, Jadeja then did the star turn with the ball as well. He got a wicket off his second ball, sending back Lankan captain, Dimuth Karunaratne.

Jadeja remained consistent but without luck for the most part. Nevertheless, he continued to persist with that typical nagging line and it finally paid off. He blew away the lower-order of the Lankan batting, helping himself to another fifer, becoming only the sixth cricketer in Test history to score 150+ and take five wickets in the same Test.
