Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj took his maiden ODI fifer to rattle Sri Lanka early in the Asia Cup 2023 final. The Lankans won the toss and opted to bat first.
Jasprit Bumrah started the slide by dismissing Kusal Perera in the very first over. However, it was Siraj’s first spell that found Sri Lanka wanting. He swung the ball and took five wickets in his first two overs. He started his spell with a maiden.
The Sri Lankan batters were guilty of pushing at the deliveries and failing to tackle the swing in the process. Siraj was at the peak of his powers making the Sri Lankan batters play the way he wanted to.
He took the wickets of Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva in just his second over. Every dismissal was different from the other showing how skillful Siraj was with the ball and how poor the Sri Lankan batters were with their shot selection.

His dismissal of Dasun Shanaka in his third over was his fifth wicket and perhaps the best of the lot. Siraj bowled the ball full, the ball swung and beat the bat of Shanaka to rattle his off stump. The Lankan skipper was surprised to miss the ball.
Shanaka was dismissed off the fourth ball of the over. Siraj set him up perfectly in his first three balls making him push at deliveries outside the off stump. After setting him up with away going deliveries, Siraj brought one back in to castle Shanaka. He now has taken 5/6 in his first four overs and he can certainly add more to his tally.
Mohammed Siraj along with Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav, three of India’s first-choice bowlers, were rested from their last Super 4 game against Bangladesh which they lost. Making a comeback into the side, he has made an impact straight away. Siraj is also a part of India’s 15-man World Cup squad.
