India captain Rohit Sharma achieved a massive feat as the skipper of the India National Cricket Team. He surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become the nation's second most successful leader in the history of the International Cricket Council (ICC) events.

Rohit Sharma achieved the feat after India defeated the United States of America (USA) in the 25th game of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match between the two teams took place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday (12th June).

Rohit Sharma did a terrific job as the captain of the team as India won the game by 7 wickets against the USA. This was their third consecutive win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, having thumped Ireland and Pakistan earlier, and with the win, they booked their berth for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

India was exceptional with the ball up front as they didn't let USA batters settle at all. Arshdeep Singh was the star for the team with the ball as he picked four wickets and gave away just 9 runs, helping the team restrict the opposition to just 110 runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

With the bat, India didn't have the kind of start as both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma (3) fell early. The duo couldn't get going at all as they were back in the hut inside the three overs. Rishabh Pant (18) looked good to the eyes as he played crisp shots but couldn't get going after the start he had, perishing to Ali Khan.

After that, Suryakumar Yadav (50*) and Shivam Dube (31*) bailed the team out of trouble and joined hands to take the team home. They added an unbeaten 72 runs for the fourth wicket as the duo made sure that they took their home and booked their place in the semi-final.

This was Rohit Sharma's 17th win as the captain of the Indian team in the ICC events. The India captain has so far captained the team in 20 games and has lost just three games. He overtook Sourav Ganguly, who had 16 wins, and is now just behind MS Dhoni, who had 41 runs in 58 games.

Most Wins in ICC Tournament by Indian Captain:

41 - MS Dhoni (58)

17 - Rohit Sharma (20)*

16 - Sourav Ganguly (22)

13 - Virat Kohli (19)

11 - Kapil Dev (15)

11 - Mohammad Azharuddin (25)
