Arshdeep Singh hardly gets the chance to bat in international cricket but the left-arm pacer had the opportunity to wield his bat on Sunday (June 9) when Team India locked horns against arch-rivals Pakistan in the 19th game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Asked to bat first, India were off to a disastrous start as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma departed cheaply. Naseem Shah sent back Kohli in the second over before Shaheen Afridi accounted for Rohit's wicket in the third. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel then steadied the ship before the latter departed for 20 to leave India 3 down for 58.
It was followed by a 31-run stand between Pant and Suryakumar Yadav before Team India suffered a collapse that saw them getting reduced to 96 for 7 from 89 for 3. Arshdeep Singh came out to bat in the 15th over after the fall of the 7th wicket.
The pacer and Hardik Pandya then took the score past the 100-run mark before the former left Virat Kohli stunned with his batting. In the 17th over, Arshdeep was facing Mohammad Amir. On the very first ball of the over, Arshdeep hit the Pakistan bowler for a four.
It was followed by two dots before he took a double. And on the final ball, Arshdeep Singh's bold as well as bizarre tactic left Kohli in disbelief. As Amir was running in to deliver the ball, Arshdeep had left all the stumps exposed while standing near the wide mark of his leg side.
As soon as Amir delivered the ball, Arshdeep walked towards the stump and swung hard but could not make any contact with the ball. The cameras soon turned towards the Indian dugout where Kohli looked in disbelief at Arshdeep's batting tactic and was also seen saying something about it to Rohit.

Meanwhile, India went on to win the game by six runs. After being bowled out for 119 runs, India restricted Pakistan to 113/7 to register their second win in as many games in the tournament. India will next take on co-hosts USA and a win will make them the first team from Group A to qualify for the Super 8s.
