Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that Sanju Samson has to be in the selectors’ scheme of things for the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is set to be played at home. Aakash Chopra highlighted Sanju Samson’s ability to bat in the middle order, which could be an added advantage.
Sanju Samson scored a quick-fire half-century, scoring 51 runs off 41 deliveries in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium on Tuesday, August 1. The right-handed batter displayed aggression from the start and dominated the Windies’ bowlers in the middle overs.
There Was A Question About Sanju Samson – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Sanju Samson can’t be ignored for the marquee event, highlighting that any player can have one bad game.
“There was a question about Sanju Samson. He was brilliant in the last game. He batted extremely well and in a different fashion. The position at which he batted, he stays afloat, because it’s the place where he can get a chance,” Chopra said.
“He will play the T20s as well, he is a part of that series. One match was bad and he scored runs in the other match. I will look at runs because anyone can have a bad match. The ability and the method to score runs, he scored a fifty, of course, you cannot ignore him at all,” he added.
The Men in Blue put up a mammoth total of 351 runs after being asked to bat first. Ishan Kishan (77), Shubman Gill (85), and Hardik Pandya (70) also smashed half-centuries.
That Game Suits Him A Lot – Aakash Chopra
The cricketer-turned-commentator was impressed with how Hardik Pandya paced his innings in the series decider. Chopra said that Suryakumar Yadav can be a good finisher for India, given his hard-hitting abilities.
“Hardik Pandya – the form is back. The way he batted in the last match was heartening to see because he took his time at the start and then the acceleration after that – five sixes and four fours. No one hits straight sixes better than him. So that’s always a great story.”
“Suryakumar Yadav hasn’t been able to score too many runs but it does not matter because he is going to play the T20Is now in any case and he has also been given that number now, that he can bat in the last 10 overs. Surya will score runs there because that game suits him a lot.”
Suryakumar scored 35 runs off 30 balls with the help of 2 boundaries and 2 sixes. The visitors bundled out the opposition for 151 runs and sealed the series with a 2-1 margin.
