The India National Cricket Team star batsman Suryakumar Yadav has opened up on his struggles in ODI cricket and said that he can’t hide behind the bush and will have to acknowledge his poor form in 50-over cricket.
The 32-year-old has established himself as one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the World. He has represented India in 51 T20I games and has scored 1780 runs at a strike rate of 174.33. However, he has not been able to crack the 50-over format of the game. In 26 ODIs, he has scored just 511 runs at an average of 24.33.
Speaking ahead of the fourth T20I against West Indies, Suryakumar admitted that he has got poor numbers in ODIs. However, the No.1 ranked T20I batter said that he is not thinking too much about the future and his focus is currently on the ongoing series against West Indies.
“Whenever I score runs if the team is winning, I’m happy. You got to be honest with yourself. You can’t hide behind the bush (on lack of runs in ODIs). At the same time, I am not thinking too much about what’s going to happen ahead, thinking about this series,” he said in a pre-match chat with the broadcasters.
We share a very good bond off the field – Suryakumar Yadav on Tilak Varma
In the third T20I, India lost quick wickets while chasing the target, and following that Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma joined forces to help India get back in the game. Both the batters looked amazing in the middle and played an attacking brand of cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav smashed outstanding 83 runs off 44 balls, with 10 fours and 4 sixes, and he was involved in a terrific 87-run partnership with Tilak Varma that helped India win the match by 7 wickets.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav further talked about his bond with Tilak Varma. Notably, both batters also play together for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“I’ve really enjoyed batting with him (Tilak Varma). We share a very good bond off the field. We spend a lot of time, going for dinners, chatting, etc. That camaraderie is very good for the team.”
