Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik believes that Ishan Kishan will have a slight edge over Sanju Samson in the selection for the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies. Dinesh Karthik stated that Sanju Samson will be the backup for Ishan Kishan in the ODI series.

Following the Test series, the Indian cricket team will take on the West Indies in a three-match series, with the first match scheduled to be played in Bridgetown on Thursday, July 27. Kishan and Samson will compete for the wicketkeeper role in the absence of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

Ishan Kishan Is Slightly Ahead – Dinesh Karthik

During a conversation with Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik explained the reason behind Ishan Kishan‘s inclusion in the playing XI for the series opener.

“There is a chance that between Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson could be the choice for the second wicket-keeper.

Ishan Kishan is slightly ahead because India lack left-handers. So, there is a great chance that he could be up there. He would also be the reserve backup opener,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

Rishabh Pant is unlikely to recover for the upcoming edition of the World Cup, which is scheduled to be played at home later this year. KL Rahul, who is recovering from a thigh injury, will be the first-choice wicketkeeper after returning to the India national cricket team.

Ishan Kishan scored 510 runs in 14 ODIs with an average of 42.5, including his best score of 210 runs against Bangladesh in December last year. On the other hand, Sanju Samson scored 330 runs in 11 ODIs with an impressive average of 66 and a strike rate of 104.76.
