Virat Kohli will resume day 2 in Trinidad on 87 and is just 13 runs short of his 29th Test on his 500th international game for India. India are in a strong position having ended day 1 at 288/4 and looking to pile up more runs on day 2.
Kohli has been in good form in this series against West Indies. He scored 76 in the first innings of the first Test and followed it up with another brilliant 87. The former skipper 161 deliveries and hit 8 fours in the process.
Aakash Chopra speaking to Jio Cinema ahead of the second day’s play in Trinidad said that he expects Virat Kohli to score a century and convert it into a big score.
“Well, he is not too far from his century. So, once he gets to that score, the amount of patience that he has shown already in Dominica and again in Trinidad, you expect him to actually convert that century – if he gets to that – into a really be one” Chopra said on Kohli.
The former Indian batter said that India should look to score as many runs as possible in the first innings after being asked to bat first by West Indies.
“India would like to score as many as they can because they have been asked to bat first. I don’t think they have a score in mind or will have a score in mind on Day Two and everybody should get to bat. If you get to 550, that would be great but will India get to 550? We don’t know. But they would want as many as they can,” said Chopra.
Kohli is the fourth Indian to play 500 international matches after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni. Rohit Sharma’s men ended day 1 on 288/4 and looking to pile on the runs on day 2 with Kohli nearing his personal milestone.
