Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey showered praise on debutant Mukesh Kumar for his exceptional bowling performance on Day 2 of the second Test match against the West Indies. Paras Mhambrey emphasized that Mukesh Kumar bowled with great determination and gave his best.
Mukesh Kumar made an impact in the second Test, impressing with his ability to swing the ball both ways. The right-arm pacer got the opportunity to play in place of Shardul Thakur and took his maiden wicket by dismissing West Indies batter Kirk McKenzie in Trinidad on Saturday, July 22.
It Was Real Quality Stuff – Paras Mhambrey
Paras Mhambrey highlighted Mukesh Kumar’s progress in the match, noting that he was able to swing the ball with the second new ball.
“I think he bowled very well,” Mhambrey said at the close of play.
“Given the conditions the way he has gone about putting everything behind the ball that is very heartening to see and that is what is expected from him and from the team management this is what we wanted. Just to give his best and this is what he has done.
I am extremely happy with the progress he has shown from the first ball of the first session he bowled, to the second new ball where he showed some signs of moving the new ball it was real quality stuff,” he added.
The First Session Will be Important – Paras Mhambrey
Mhambrey believes the first session on Day 4 will be crucial for his team to bowl out the opposition and gain the upper hand to clinch the series win.
“I think the first session (on Sunday) will be important. To see the way we swung the ball in the last session right now, both Siraj and Mukesh came in and swung the ball and troubled the batters and there were a couple of close calls out there,” he further stated.
“Looking at that, I think the first session in the morning and even the first hour is going to be crucial.
“If we pick up a couple of wickets is opens up the match for us and we can take the game forward and see where we are. What we look for from the bowlers is to hit the right areas, show some patience and make the batters play,” he concluded.
The Rohit Sharma-led team was bowled out for 438 runs in their first innings. The hosts ended the third day’s play with a score of 229/5. Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets, and Mukesh Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj took one wicket each.
