Veteran fast bowler Ishant Sharma believes that Virat Kohli has the responsibility to score runs in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Ishant Sharma said that Virat Kohli’s experience and leadership in all three formats of the game make him capable of grooming young players.
Virat Kohli had a tough time in red-ball cricket for a few years. However, he regained his mojo with a century in the Broder Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia earlier this year. The veteran batter smashed a 186-run knock in the final match of the BGT series at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

He Knows How To Groom Youngsters – Ishant Sharma
During a discussion on JioCinema, Ishant Sharma stressed the significance of senior players setting an example by scoring runs. Ishan expressed confidence in Virat Kohli’s ability to score runs with his current batting form.
“The most important thing is that if you are a senior player, you will first have to score your own runs or else the juniors will also ask what is the point of you being a senior,” Ishan said.
“However, I know that Virat Kohli will definitely score runs because of the mental frame he is in currently and the way he is batting. He knows how to groom youngsters because he has captained the Indian team for so many runs,” he added.
The former Indian captain remained unbeaten on 36 at stumps on the second day of the first Test against the West Indies in Roseau. Kohli will be hoping to end his overseas century drought. He scored the last century in away conditions in 2018 against Australia in Perth.

He Never Told Them How To Play – Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma highlighted that Virat Kohli played a key role in grooming Rishabh Pant, saying that the former Indian skipper allowed him to trust his natural game.
“When young boys came into our team, like Rishabh Pant or someone else, he never told them how to play in a particular situation,” he continued.
“He always said that they should stick to their technique and should play the way they feel. If your captain backs you, it becomes a very important thing as a player,” he concluded.
Virat Kohli was the most successful Indian captain in the longer format of the game. The 34-year-old led the team in 68 tests. He achieved 40 victories and suffered only 17 defeats during his tenure as captain.
