Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has lashed out at Team India after they came up with yet another dismal performance in the ongoing T2oI series against West Indies.

Having lost the first T20I by four runs while chasing 150, Team India, on Sunday (August 6), lost the second game by 2 wickets while defending 152. The performance from the Men in Blue was really disappointing as West Indies took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first only to see India making a poor start with the bat once again. Shubman Gill (7) and Suryakumar Yadav (1) failed to get going while Ishan Kishan (27) could not capitalize on the start. Sanju Samson continued to be careless in shot-making and was stumped for 7 when he stepped out to play a big shot.

For the second game in a row, Tilak Varma top-scored for India. The newcomer scored 51 off 41 balls to help the Men in Blue cross the 100-run mark. India eventually finished their innings on 152 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. The visitors started well with the ball thanks to Pandya who dismissed Brandon King and Johnson Charles in the very first over.

West Indies lost Kyle Mayers inside the powerplay too. However, Nicholas Pooran held firm from one end and went on to score 67 runs to revive the chase. India did take a flurry of wickets towards the end and turned the game on its head but failed to deliver the killer punch.

Venkatesh Prasad slams Team India:

After the loss in the second T20I, Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter to reiterate that India have been very ordinary in white-ball cricket in recent times. He called India’s performance ‘very, very ordinary’ and pointed out that the Men in Blue have not won the T20 World Cup since winning it for the first time in 2007. The former pacer stated that the players need to show more intensity and hunger to win the game.

“Very very ordinary. No point in brushing it aside. After the 2007 T20 World Cup, IPL started and we haven’t won a T20 World Cup in 7 attempts since, making only 1 finals. The intensity and hunger to win needs to be far more,” tweeted Venkatesh Prasad.

Writing further, he slammed Hardik Pandya for his poor captaincy. He stated that Yuzvendra Chahal should have bowled one more over after taking two wickets in the 16th over. By the time, Chahal ended the over, West Indies were reeling at 129 for 8. And while he still had one over left, captain Pandya decided against bowling him again in the game.

“Yesterday after Yuzi took 2 wkts in the 16th. And Yuzi got India back into the game in what was his third over and West Indies 8th down and he didn’t bowl again and No 9 and 10 for WI found the pacers easy to handle. Should be smarter at these moments then just doing textbook stuff,” wrote Venkatesh Prasad.

Venkatesh Prasad was considered the front-runner to become India’s chief-selector. However, his blunt remarks would’ve kept him away from holding an important chair.
