Young Indian batter Tilak Varma opened up about playing ICC World Cup 2023. He said that although he never thinks about the future, it has been his childhood dream to play the World Cup and win it for India.
Tilak Varma has taken the cricketing world by storm with the kind of display he has shown in his maiden series for India. The young batter in the ongoing T20I series has looked a class apart and has batted with immense maturity in this series.
Tilak Varma has carried the Indian lineup in the ongoing series, which speaks a lot of his caliber. The left-hander played has looked unfazed by the pressure of international cricket as he has been staggering and has given a great indication to the selectors that he’s here to stay.
With him displaying a lot of maturity, there have been many calls related to his inclusion in the Indian team for the ICC World Cup 2023. Many feel that with Shreyas Iyer unfit there’s no better player than him as he also brings the left-hand variation with him.
Tilak Varma talked about his dream of playing ODI World Cup and explained:
“Never think about the future but it has been my dream to play World Cup. I always think every day, always imagine myself as playing World Cup and winning the World Cup for the Indian team. So that’s what makes it easier for me in these types of matches. It is one of my dreams right from my childhood,” he told Jio Cinema.
IND vs WI: MSK Prasad backs Tilak Varma to make it into the World Cup squad
Former India selector MSK Prasad backed Tilak Varma to make it into the team for the World Cup 2023. He pointed out that in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, he should be given a nod ahead because of his versatility. He explained:
“First of all, we should know whether Shreyas Iyer is fit or not. So, in case, if Shreyas Iyer is ruled out, in the present scenario, one guy who fits the bill is Tilak Varma because of his versatility, his ability to play fast bowling and spin bowling, and also because of his ability to switch gears as and when required. More than anything else, we don’t have a left-hander at the top of the order. So all these things will definitely go in favour of Tilak Varma,” Prasad said.
