The former India captain has been in decent form in the last series against Afghanistan, where he scored 48 runs (off 39 balls) in the 2nd ODI and a commanding 79 runs (off 69 balls) in the 3rd ODI in Chennai, the latter of which saw him surpass Virender Sehwag as India's all-time leading run-scorer as an opening batter in international cricket.

The opener scored 16,137 runs in 386 innings as an opener, officially breaking Sehwag's old record of 16,119 runs in 400 innings. Rohit also broke the record and became the oldest Indian player to get a half-century in ODIs. He beat Mohinder Amarnath's previous record of 39 years and 21 days.
Rohit Sharma's recent ODI form
Rohit had been in good form in the last year in the series against Australia in Australia, scoring one century and one half-century in the match and finishing as the leading run scorer in the series and also won the Player of the Series for his exceptional performance. In the ODI series against South Africa, he scored 180 runs across three innings.
The 39-year-old batter has 1,428 runs in 27 ODIs in England, averaging 64.90, with 7 centuries and 7 half-centuries. His total record in England makes him the leading run-scorer among all visiting batters in ODIs. He will look to continue his good form in the UK country where he had a stellar 2019 World Cup season.
Will Rohit Sharma feature in ODI World Cup 2027?
Rohit has been questioned for his age as he will turn 40 by the time the 2027 ODI World Cup arrives, and India plays 20 to 22 bilateral ODIs before the 2027 World Cup. He needs to perform well across the series to put all the doubts and critics to bed and feature in the major tournament.
Coming to his fitness, he pulled his hamstring during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 but has returned well and was also declared fully fit by the Centre of Excellence (CoE), where Rohit did his rehab ahead of the Afghanistan series. India have already announced the squad for the series with Virat Kohli returning to the side.
