India And West Indies Fined For Slow-Over Rate In IND vs WI 1st T20I

ICC has now revealed that they have fined both India and West Indies for maintaining slow-over rates during IND vs WI 1st T20I. During the match, the men-in-blue were short of 1 over during their bowling. The home side were two over behind during their bowling.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, For Players And Players Support Personnel, players can be fined five percent of their match fees for every over short in the match. There is a maximum cap of 50 percent fine.

Since Team India were short of 1 over, their players have been fined 5 percent. Similarly, West Indies have been fined 10 percent for being 2 overs short. The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard, third umpire Nigel Duguid and fourth umpire Leslie Reifer.

Meanwhile, West Indies defeated India by 4 runs in the IND vs WI 1st T20I. Batting first, West Indies posted 149-6 with brilliant knocks by Nicholas Pooran (41) and Rovman Powell (48).

Later, openers Ishan Kishan (6) and Shubman Gill (3) failed to provide a good start to India. Suryakumar Yadav played a slow knock of 21 runs off 21 balls. Debutant Tilak Varma added 39 off 22 to come up with a fabulous performance in the match.

However, India lost all of their batters during the death overs. Sanju Samson, who was set on the crease, faced a tricky run-out while sneaking a single. In the final over, India needed 10 runs to win.

However, with Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh on the strike and 8 wickets down, India did not have much hope for victory. Finishing with 145-9 till the final delivery, India remained 5 runs short of victory in the end.
