Arshdeep Singh has made a comeback of sorts to international cricket after being picked for the T20I series against West Indies. He is also included in the Indian squad for the T20I series against Ireland later this month.
Arshdeep Singh bowled a spell of 2 for 31 to restrict West Indies to 149. This included a decent 19th over as well where he did not go for too many runs.
The Indian batters, however, were disappointed and could not go past the paltry total. India lost the match by four runs with them needing 37 runs from 30 balls with both Hardik Pandya and Sanju Samson still unbeaten.
Jason Holder dismissed Hardik in the 16th over and the run out of Samson in the same over turned the match in West Indies’ favor. India failed to win despite Tilak Varma scoring a sensational 39 off 22 balls.
Looking back at Tilak’s innings, Arshdeep Singh who had a chat with reporters said that he plays attacking cricket and his dismissal was not the turning point in the game.
“We can’t call [his wicket] the turning point, that is the way he plays. He plays attacking shots, and that does give chances, but like we saw, he has a lot of talent,” Arshdeep said.
You Have To Maintain Consistency In International T20I Cricket: Arshdeep Singh
The speedster was then asked about the challenges players face in trying to adapt from IPL cricket to international T20I cricket. Arshdeep found his making in international cricket after having a couple of successful seasons with the Punjab Kings.
“There’s a high level of cricket in the IPL as well, but when you come to international cricket, you know you’re here because your skill level is good enough to get you to this point. The transformation is that here you have to maintain your consistency, you don’t get the chance to make too many mistakes. Those mistakes get punished more often here. So you have to have that consistency,” concluded Arshdeep.
India take on West Indies in the second T20I on Sunday looking to level the series. The five-match T20I series ends on August 13 with the fifth and final T20I.
