Ishan Kishan, on Sunday (July 23), thanked fellow wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant after scoring a whirlwind fifty in his debut Test which is currently underway between India and West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
After warming the bench in the dressing room throughout the four-match Test series and the World Test Championship against Australia earlier this year, Ishan Kishan finally made his Test debut during the first Test against West Indies. He did not get the chance to impress with the bat on his debut but impressed one and all with his work behind the stumps.

And he has finally made his mark with the bat in the ongoing second Test. After scoring 25 off 37 balls in the first innings, the hard-hitting batsman was promoted to number four in the second innings and he made the most of the opportunity. The Jharkhand star smashed an unbeaten 52 off just 34 balls with the help of four boundaries and a couple of sixes.
Ishan Kishan thanks Rishabh Pant:
Speaking at the end of the day’s play after scoring the whirlwind fifty, Ishan Kishan thanked Rishabh Pant as he revealed that the latter’s advice helped him do well. Before coming to West Indies, Ishan Kishan had gone to the National Cricket Academy where Rishabh Pant is currently undergoing rehab. Interestingly, Ishan also batted with a bat that had the letters ‘RP17’ which likely stands for Rishabh Pant and his jersey number 17.
“I was at NCA before coming here. I was practising there and Rishabh was also there for his rehab. He just got few points for me, he asked me the bat position and everything. Because we have played together, so many matches, we are together since under 19.
“So he knows how I play, what my mindset is. So he just helped me a little bit with my bat position and everything. So otherwise I think I also wanted someone to tell me a few things about my batting and it was a great time for him to come and chat with me and I am really thankful for that,” Ishan Kishan said in a video posted by BCCI.
