Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will lead his team in the 100th Test match between India and West Indies. Trinidad is the venue for the special occasion with India looking to complete a clean sweep. India won the first Test by an innings and 141 runs.
Speaking to the reporters ahead of the first Test, Rohit Sharma spoke on the occasion of the 100th Test match between both countries. He had a funny take on the rivalry between both the teams and the history associated with it.
“It’s a big occasion. The 100th Test between the two teams. The history is so rich as the two teams have been playing against each other for such a long time. Main to paida bhi nahi hua tha, tab se chal raha hai (It’s been going on since I wasn’t even born). So, you can imagine how rich the history is.”
“Both teams have played so many games against each other and have entertained the crowd for so many years. So, I hope this game also goes on in the same way” said Rohit Sharma.
He further said that as a skipper it will be an honour for him to lead the team in the 100th Test match.
“It’s an honour to be taking the Indian team into this game. It’s a historic game and doesn’t happen every day. I’m fortunate enough and so is the team to be playing this game,” he added.

Shubman Gill batted at number three in the last game as debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a scintillating ton opening the batting. Rohit Sharma also scored his 10th Test ton as India posted a mammoth 421/5 and declared. Ravichandran Ashwin took 12 wickets in the game.
Rohit at the pre-match press conference hinted that they might not make any drastic change to their playing XI for the second test. However, he also confirmed that the playing XI will depend on the weather conditions with rain hovering around the second Test.
“In Dominica, we had a clear idea when we saw the pitch and knew the conditions. Here we don’t have clarity as there is talk of rain, but I don’t think there will be drastic changes. But whatever conditions are available, based on that, we will make that decision,” Rohit told reporters ahead of the match.
Both teams will play three ODIs and five T20Is after the Test series.
