Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make his international comeback as he is expected to be picked in India’s squad for the three T20 internationals in Ireland, as per ESPNcricinfo. The matches will be played on August 18, 20 and 23 with the Indian squad likely to be announced this week.
Bumrah has been out of cricket since September 2022 and he underwent a back surgery in March 2023. He withdrew from the T20I series against South Africa after playing two games against Australia. Bumrah missed the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and the WTC final against Australia.
Earlier this year, he tried to return in the series against Sri Lanka but the BCCI said that he did not regain complete fitness. The Indian pacer underwent back surgery and has been working at the NCA on his fitness ever since.
As per a medical official from the NCA, Bumrah’s initial return to international cricket was supposed to be during the Asia Cup 2023 on July 30. Meanwhile, an update from the BCCI last week said that the Indian pacer was bowling at “full intensity” in the nets. The Indian pace spearhead has built on his bowling intensity since starting his rehab in April this year.
Jasprit Bumrah Missed T20 World Cup, WTC Final, Australia Test Series
This is Bumrah’s second visit to Ireland. He toured the country when India went there back in 2018 unfortunately fracturing his left thumb in the first match of the T20I series, forcing him to miss the first half of the England tour that year.
Bumrah’s return will be a big boost for the Indian cricket team ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 at home. The team badly missed him in the WTC final against Australia and also in the T20 World Cup last year as well.
Alongside him, Mohammed Shami will also return to the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2023 after getting some well-deserved rest. He last played for India in the WTC final against Australia and was rested for the tour to West Indies.
