Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has backed the Hardik Pandya-led team despite their poor performances in the ongoing five-match series against the West Indies. Mohammad Kaif urged Indian fans to support the Men in Blue ahead of the upcoming ODI World Cup at home.

The team management rested skipper Rohit Sharma and senior batter Virat Kohli for the last two matches in the recent ODI series. The decision sparked criticism from the cricketing fraternity as they lost the second match. However, the Men in Blue bounced back to secure the series 2-1.

World Cup Is Coming Home – Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif took to Twitter to request the fans not to write off the Indian team, mentioning that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will bring the World Cup home.

“Small request for cricket fans: Don’t write off Indian team. Show unity, don’t be divided by your individual choice of players. Rohit and Dravid have played big tournaments without stars like Bumrah. World Cup is coming home, the boys need your support,” Kaif tweeted.

Rohit led the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2022, and the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the tournaments due to injury, which had a significant impact on Indian bowling.

Some Were Shocked – Ravichandran Ashwin

Recently, veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his support for Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, emphasizing that victory cannot be taken for granted in international cricket.

“Some (people) were shocked because we lost to a team that didn’t qualify for the World Cup. Many people think that India’s only job in international cricket is to win the World Cup. People think India are favourites to win the World Cup because of the IPL,” Ashwin said.

Winning A World Cup Is Not Easy – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin urged fans to support the team and avoid negativity, emphasizing that winning a World Cup is challenging.

“Winning a world cup is not easy…just because we play a certain player or drop a certain player, we can’t win. All of us are hindsight kings. Hindsight doesn’t work here,” he further stated.

“We have qualified for the semifinals of almost all major tournaments but on that day, we have not been good enough. Let us send them (to the WC) with a lot of positivity,” he concluded.
