IND vs WI ODI: India’s Predicted Playing XI Against West Indies, 1st ODI 2023. India takes on West Indies in the first ODI in Barbados on July 27. The match starts at 7 pm IST which is 9.30 am local time. India are heading into this ODI series after winning the Test series 1-0.

The BCCI has named a full-strength ODI side with all the experienced players part of the side. Rohit Sharma will lead the side. He has Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Suryakumar Yadav as his batting core. Hardik Pandya makes a return to the side as the specialist all-rounder along with Ravindra Jadeja.

The BCCI has named Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan as the specialist keepers in the side. With the continued absence of Rishabh Pant from the playing XI, Samson, and Kishan gets another opportunity to prove their credentials.

Mohammed Siraj will continue to lead the bowling attack in the ODIs after the Tests. He has Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik, and Mukesh Kumar along with him. Chahan and Kuldeep will be the two spinners.

The three-match ODI series will be about the team management trying out new combinations in the absence of the regular players in the lineup. In this article, we predict India’s likely playing XI for the first ODI against West Indies.

Rohit had a very good Test series. He scored 240 runs in the Test series including a hundred and two fifties. The skipper would like to continue his form in the ODI series as well. He might fancy getting a couple of hundreds.

Shubman Gill

Gill is likely to open the batting along with Rohit Sharma. He did not score too many runs in the Test series and would like to make the most in ODIs. He scored 638 runs in 12 ODIs in 2022 and has already scored 624 runs in just nine ODIs this year including three hundreds.

Virat Kohli

The former skipper will slot in at three. He has got his run-scoring form back and is fresh off his 29th Test ton in his 500th international game for India. This year he has already scored 427 runs including two hundreds in just nine matches.

Suryakumar Yadav

SKY will slot in at four. With India playing a lot of Test cricket after the IPL, Surya remained out of the Indian team. He is yet to prove his quality as an ODI cricketer having scored just 433 runs in 23 ODIs.

Sanju Samson (WK)

In the absence of KL Rahul, Sanju Samson can slot in at five. He is yet to play an ODI this year but in 2022, he scored 284 runs in 10 ODIS at an average of 71.00 including two fifties. There are talks about giving a longer run in ODIs and T20Is.

Hardik Pandya

Pandya will return to the ODI side. He will lead the side in the T20I series but will continue to play a key role in ODI cricket. Hardik has made a serious impact as an all-rounder since the time he started bowling.

Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja had a good Test series with both bat and ball taking seven wickets and scoring 98 runs with the bat. He has already picked up 41 wickets against West Indies and will look to add to his tally.

Shardul Thakur

Thakur can slot in at eight. His batting at eighth extends India’s batting lineup a little more. Shardul played the first Test and took a wicket bowling just seven overs. In the WTC final, he scored a brilliant 51 in the first innings with the bat. He certainly has a good pedigree with the bat.

Mohammed Siraj

Siraj will lead the pace attack. He took seven wickets in the Test series and bowled with a lot of pace and accuracy. He is seven wickets short of getting to 50 ODI wickets which he might get in this series.

Mukesh Kumar

After a good debut In Trinidad, Mukesh Kumar can be backed to make his ODI debut in Barbados. He took two wickets in his debut Test and can bring that confidence in ODI cricket.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep will be one of the two spinners in the lineup. In 2022 he played 8 ODIs and took 12. In 8 matches this year so far, he has taken 15 wickets. Rohit has started backing him in ODIs in recent times. He will conclude the likely Indian playing XI.
