IND vs WI ODI: West Indies’ Predicted Playing XI Against India, 1st ODI 2023. West Indies take on India in a three-match ODI series after losing the Test series. The first ODI will be played in Barbados starting from 9.30 am local time which is 7 pm IST.

Cricket West Indies announced a 15-member ODI squad leaving out Nicholas Pooran and Jaason Holder from the squad. They recalled Oshane Thomas and Shimron Hetmyer back into the squad. Pacer Jayden Seales and leg-spinner Yannic Cariah have made it to the squad too after completing their rehabilitation from surgery.

Shai Hope will lead the side with Rovman Powell named as vice-captain. West Indies recently failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup. Thus they will be looking to regroup as a team and come back to their best in ODI cricket.

The last time West Indies played an ODI series against India back in 2022 they lost the series 3-0. West Indies have won 70 games and lost 63 matches against India in 139 ODIs to date. In this article, we take a look at West Indies’ predicted playing XI for the first ODI against India.

Hope is the captain and the wicketkeeper of the side. He will open the batting. He is currently West Indies’ best batsman in the white-ball format. Hope is nearing 5000 ODI runs and has already scored 23 fifties and 15 hundreds in just 115 matches.

Kyle Mayers

Mayers is a hard-hitting all-rounder who bats in the top-order. He hits the ball very hard and scores quick runs. The Southpaw played for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and scored quickfire runs for the franchise as well.

Alick Athanaze

Athanaze can bat at three. He has played just one ODI and two Test matches. He scored 112 runs in the Test series showing great patience and skill as a batsman. He will slot in at three.

Brandon King

King is another top-order batsman who can bat at any number from one to four. He is inching closer to 1000 ODI runs. In 2023, the right-hander has already scored 538 runs in 11 matches and is a good prospect for the future.

Shimron Hetmyer

In the absence of Nicholas Pooran, Hetmyer can slot in at five. He is being groomed into a finisher in the national side. The southpaw played his last ODI in July 2021.

Rovman Powell

Powell will slot in at six. Being the vice-captain of the side, he will need to take added responsibility with the bat to make a match for the side. He can also contribute with the bat.

Romario Shepherd

Shepherd will slot in at seven to extend the West Indies batting lineup. He can also chip in with a few overs. The all-rounder has played 26 T20Is and 22 ODIs for West Indies.

Yannic Cariah

Cariah can be the specialist spinner in the side. The leg spinner is very new to his international career having played just two T20Is and 8 ODIs. He took five wickets in the series against UAE.

Alzarri Joseph

Joseph will lead the pace attack. He was a part of the Test squad taking just one wicket and conceding 266 runs in the series in close to 45 overs. Joseph has taken 101 wickets in 61 ODIs.

Dominic Drakes

Dominic Drakes can be the second pacer in the lineup. He is the son of former West Indies pacer Vasbert Drakes. The left-arm pacer has played 10 T20Is and just two ODIs.

Oshane Thomas

Thomas concludes the likely playing XI for West Indie against India. He was recalled back into the ODI side after a gap of three years. He played his last ODI in January 2020.
