IND Vs WI: Parthiv Patel Backs Shubman Gill After 4th T20I Match, Says "We Need To Keep Faith In Players"

Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel lambasted the critics who questioned Shubman Gill after his off-form in the first three T20I matches against West Indies.

Shubman Gill played a scintillating innings in the fourth T20I match against West Indies and helped the Men in Blue to win their second consecutive match by nine wickets.

The 23-year-old made 77 runs from 47 balls with a strike rate of 163.83. He hammered three fours and five sixes in the second innings.

While speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv Patel said that people have a habit of questioning someone who fails to score runs and added that we should keep faith in players.

“Shubman Gill was outstanding today. We know the potential of Shubman Gill; we have the tendency of questioning someone who doesn’t get runs. After just a couple of performances here and there, we should not say he can’t play T20s or he can’t play ODIs. We need to keep faith in players and an approach. When you are trying to play attacking cricket, you might get out, especially an opener playing T20 format,” Parthiv Patel told.

Parthiv Patel praised the 23-year-old star batsman and said that he was outstanding with his shot selection in the second innings and showed how good he can play. Patel further added that he can play all the formats and mentioned he got one century on his Test debut.

“Shubman Gill was outstanding with his shot selection, and Yashasvi Jaiswal yet again has shown how good a player he is. He is probably a player of all formats. He got a hundred on Test debut and got a fifty in his second T20I. When you score more than 150 in an opening partnership, that 179 target looks really small. That is exactly what India did today,” Parthiv Patel added.

The former player did not forget to mention Yashasvi Jaiswal’s magnificent innings and praised the youngster for his fearless approach and perfect shot selection.

“He was fearless; there was no doubt about the shot selection. The reverse-sweep six off Akeal Hosein shows the frame of mind he is in. It doesn’t matter (to him) how he gets out,” Parthiv Patel on Yashasvi Jaiswal.

India will take on West Indies in the series decider on Sunday (August 13) at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Florida.
