Former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim lauded Ishan Kishan for his batting and wicketkeeping skills and stated that Rohit Sharma will keep faith in Ishan Kishan ahead of Rishabh Pant in Tests. Saba Karim feels that Ishan Kishan did a lot of homework for keeping the stumps ahead of IND vs WI 2nd Test.
Replacing KS Bharat in the playing XI, Ishan Kishan gave a marvelous performance in IND vs WI Test series. The 24-year-old remained unbeaten on 1 run in the 1st Test. In the 2nd Test, he shattered quickfire 52 off 34 balls when the team needed to score runs at a faster run rate.
Rohit Sharma and Co Will Keep Their Faith In Ishan Kishan- Saba Karim
While Speaking on Jio Cinema, former Indian player Saba Karim said that Ishan Kishan struggled to keep the stumps in the 1st Test in Dominica. However, he did a lot of homework and came up with a better performance in the 2nd Test.
“We saw that in the first Test match at time it seemed that he was not able to collect the balls properly, especially against R Ashwin and Jadeja. He has done a lot of homework and he has come back in a much stronger way in the second Test match,” Karim said.
In the IND vs WI 2nd Test, Ishan Kishan grabbed three brilliant catches behind the stumps. Saba Karim also lauded the wicketkeeper-batsman for his batting show in the match. He also feels that Rohit Sharma has a lot of trust in Kishan in the current WTC cycle.
“Plus to see him being promoted, given that responsibility and again to see him back with so much of freedom goes to show that in this WTC cycle, Rohit Sharma and company have decided to go ahead with Ishan Kishan because they can provide them with those kind of runs in a brisk manner,” said Saba Karim, who is also a former India selector.
Ishan Kishan Has Shown Constant Improvement: Saba Karim
Saba Karim, who played 1 Test and 34 ODIs for India, also feels that Kishan has shown constant improvement in both batting and keeping.
“But I think Ishan, when he was picked he realised very well that he be behind the stump but also score runs with the willow and I think in both these aspects done quite well and there is a constant improvement,” the 55-year-old further said.
KS Bharat did a decent job in the previous bilateral series against Australia. He made his international debut in the series and also played in ICC WTC 2023 final later in June. However, Rohit Sharma went ahead with Ishan Kishan in both games of the IND vs WI Test series.
Meanwhile, India defeated West Indies 1-0 in the two-match Test series. Due to rain, the 2nd Test could not witness the final day and ended in a draw. However, India earlier won the 1st Test by an innings and 141 runs.
