Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have made a stunning start as Team India’s new opening pair in Test cricket. The captain and the youngster have hit the ground running together in the ongoing two-match Test series against West Indies.

They opened together for the first time last week during the first Test in Dominica and shared a mammoth partnership of 229 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma scored 103 while Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 171 runs as India thrashed West Indies by an innings and 141 runs.

And the duo continued their strong start in the ongoing second Test too as they gave the visitors a solid start. The duo shared their second century-plus stand in as many innings as India made a good start with the bat after West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 139 runs for the first wicket.

Jason Holder broke the stand when he dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal after lunch. The left-handed batsman, who was batting in just his second Test innings, scored 57 runs. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, departed after scoring 80 runs.

The likes of Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane failed to fire but Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship with an unbeaten stand of 106 runs. At stumps, India were on 288 for 4 with Kohli batting on 87 and Jadeja on 36.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal achieve big milestone:

It has taken Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal just two innings to achieve a big milestone as an opening pair. They now have the joint-most century partnerships in an away series. Before them, the pair of Sunil Gavaskar-Chetan Chauhan, Virender Sehwag-Aakash Chopra, and Sehwag-Wasim Jaffer had achieved the same feat. All the pairs managed to stitch together two-century stands in the same series away from home.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal also ended India’s long wait for two consecutive century stands by the openers in Tests. The last pair to do so was Sadagopan Ramesh-Devang Gandhi when they achieved the feat against New Zealand way back in 1999. Rohit and Jaiswal’s pair has also become the first Indian pair to stitch together century stands in consecutive innings in West Indies.
