IND vs WI: Shardul Thakur Reveals Why Yuzvendra Chahal Was Benched In The ODI Series

Ace Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not picked in any of the three games of India vs West Indies ODI series. Kuldeep Yadav was preferred over Chahal as the specialist spinner alongside Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep ended up picking seven wickets in the series.
Shardul Thakur, who picked up 8 wickets in the series, spoke about the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal to the reporters after the third ODI match was over. Having missed out in the ODIs, Chahal will be desperate to play a big role in the five-match T20I series.
Speaking to the reporters, Shaudrl Thakur was asked about Chahal’s absence from the playing XI in all three matches. He replied saying that Chahal not playing was down to the utilization of players in the squad.

Shardul Thakur spoke about the importance of this series on their journey leading upto the World Cup.

“As I said we have a good bench strength so a few players might miss out on playing a particular series against a particular opposition,” said Thakur.

Yuzvendra Chahal Is A Very Good Player: Shardul Thakur
He further said that despite not playing in this series, Chahal will always be a good player and a proven performer in the Indian team.
“Yuzvendra Chahal is a very good player. He has performed consistently over the years and proved himself. Him getting selected in the playing XI is the management’s call and I can’t comment on that,” Thakur added further.
Thakur went on to add “Chahal is always amongst the wickets both in ODIs or T20Is. He has always contributed towards the success of the team. He is a very good player and he will not be demoralized having missed a series,” Thakur concluded saying.
India won the Test series 1-0, the ODI series 2-1, and now will face the West Indies in a five-match T20I series. Hardik Pandya will continue to lead a young group of players in the T20I series which will provide yet another opportunity for them to perform with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rested.
The first T20I will be played in Trinidad (August 3), the next two in Guyana ( August 6, 8), and the final two in Florida, Lauderhill (August 12, 13).
