Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra praised West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran for his match-winning half-century in the second T20I against India. Aakash Chopra said that Nicholas Pooran is one of the few players in the world who can play a destructive brand of cricket.

The Hardik Pandya-led team scored 152 runs after winning the toss at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, August 6. In response, the hosts chased down the target with seven balls to spare. Nicholas Pooran helped the team take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

He Is My Player Of The Match – Aakash Chopra

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that Suryakumar Yadav was the only aggressive batter in the Team India lineup.

“The match got settled in the second innings when Nicholas Pooran came. His name is Nicky P and he is my Player of the Match. The form he is in and to maintain that form with this tempo, it just speaks volumes that this player is extremely special,” Chopra said.

“You also feel slightly envious because Suryakumar Yadav is the only player like that in your team, who was maintaining such a form and batting like this. Everyone else, whenever they play, they play well, but very few players in the world have this kind of destructive mode. Nicholas Pooran, at this point in time, is one of the best,” he added.

Pooran started the innings with an aggressive approach, despite losing two wickets in the first over. The left-handed batter scored 67 runs off 40 balls, including six boundaries and four sixes. He was rewarded with the Player of the Match for his contribution.

Nicholas Pooran Is Very Good – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator praised Nicholas Pooran‘s aggressive approach in T20Is and highlighted how he played a crucial role in helping the team recover after losing early wickets.

“You generally don’t see variations in a T20 knock, that you hit as well, then you take singles and then you pick it up again. You see this a lot in ODIs, you may start strong, then slow down a little, and then gather pace. So you see those curves but in T20s, the graph mostly goes upwards but that’s not the case with Nicky P.”

“When he came, the team was struggling a lot, two wickets had fallen for two runs – Brandon King and Johnson Charles had been dismissed and the team was stuck. Then Kyle Mayers got out but this guy hit at the start and then accumulated runs one by one. He is very good,” he concluded.

The left-handed batter came in when the score was 2/2 and got out when the score reached 126/4 in the 14th over. The hosts struggled after his dismissal, but Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph formed an unbeaten ninth-wicket partnership of 26 runs to complete the chase.
